Time: February 28, 5-7/8PM PST Location: 3961 Sepulveda Blvd Suite 206, Culver City, CA 90230 Underwater Photography is more than a sport or an artform - it's an addiction. This class will inspire you to become a better photographer both above and below sea level. We will take you through the basic techniques and gear needed to become an underwater photographer. The instructor for today will be Mark Strickland (This course is recommended for entry level to early intermediate level photographers desiring to learn the basics of underwater photography.) Course Agenda: 1. Getting Started: This topic will address the wide variety of camera systems employed in underwater photography (from point and shoot cameras to full, pro level systems) and will cover the pros and cons of each system type, helping the new photographer decide which system is right for them. 2. The Challenges of Shooting Underwater: Unlike shooting on land, the underwater environment creates special challenges easily overcome with equipment and technique. This topic will enable the photographer to recognize and understand these challenges and how to address them. 3. Camera Settings and the reasons why we recommend them; The best underwater photographers do not shoot their camera on “automatic.” Learn the reasons why and how this will result in much better underwater images. 4. How to Manage Light: This topic will address the whys and the hows of employing artificial light underwater (strobes/flash) while also addressing shooting with natural sunlight. 5. The fundamentals of macro and wide angle photography; Learn about what constitutes the difference between macro and wide angle images and the advantages/disadvantages of each type of system for shooting. If the student already has a camera system, this subject can be tailored specifically to the student’s system, dependent on numbers signing up for the class. 6. Putting it all Together and Going to Work: This section provides information on pre-shooting, shooting underwater and post-shooting instruction. Learn how to precheck your system to avoid issues, learn basic techniques of actual image capture (rule of thirds, perspective shooting, how and why we check our work in progress while underwater) and post dive actions to keep your system operating.
