Located on the second-largest barrier reef in the world, Belize offers a fantastic range of scuba diving opportunities suitable for all levels of diver. Best explored by Belize liveaboard, the region's 400 cayes, 3 atolls, and 7 marine reserves offer some of the best liveaboard diving in the world and are a popular choice with Bluewater staff and customers.
Here are some of the areas you will discover on a Belize liveaboard:
The Blue Hole
At 400 ft deep and 1,000 ft wide, this is the largest Blue Hole in the world and is a regular stop on many Belize liveaboard trips. While it may lack marine life, the walls are covered in huge stalactites and a sharp thermocline towards 140ft adds some drama to an already unique dive!
Half Moon Caye
Close to the Blue Hole, this tropical island paradise is a haven for birds and offers some great snorkeling between dives. Half Moon Caye Wall is a deep drop-off featuring plentiful marine life and an abundance of reef sharks.
Ambergris Caye
A popular tourist resort area off Belize's northern coastline, Ambergris Caye boasts plenty of upmarket resorts, restaurants, and lively nightlife. The diving is just as exciting, offering healthy reefs, a variety of dive sites, and plentiful encounters with sharks and rays.
Turneffe Atoll
Arguably the best dive area in Belize, Turneffe Atoll is an offshore series of reefs within day-trip distance of Ambergris Caye. Famous for sites such as Lighthouse Reef and The Elbow, divers can expect to spot moray eels, nurse sharks, eagle rays, tarpon, and grouper among other things.
Hol Chan Marine Reserve
As Belize's first-established marine reserve, Hol Chan offers a variety of habitats from seagrass beds to mangroves, as well as a vibrant reef system. Marine life is rich and healthy and includes hunting moray eels, stingrays, lobster, and many other crustaceans.
